Blocked Toilet

Have a Blocked Toilet In Sussex, Surrey, Kent, Hampshire & London?

Blocked toilets are a frustrating and messy experience for any home or commercial building resident. Toilets are not designed to cope with large amounts of waste such as nappies, sanitary towels, tampons, baby wipes etc. Other causes can be a clip on toilet freshener holders being flushed down the toilet, tree roots, broken pipes, and caustic soda.

CAUSTIC SODA WARNING!

Caustic soda is often used by homeowners to clear blocked drains but it can also make them worse. Caustic Soda is a very dangerous material to use and should be handled with great caution.

Due to its hazardous nature it is imperative that it is kept out of reach of children.

If used correctly caustic soda can clear some blocked drains but if it must be properly flushed through otherwise the residual will harden like cement which will create A DRAIN BLOCKAGE!

The correct method to using caustic soda is to pour hot water down the drain to warm the pipe. Pour the caustic soda into the drain and ensure to protect your eyes to avoid contact with the bubbling and foaming chemical. Caustic soda is extremely dangerous if it gets on your skin or in your eyes.

After 2 minutes flush the drain with hot water again and wash it all away. If your drain is still blocked you should call a plumber or professional drain cleaning company such as DrainBoss 03302235789.

If Caustic Soda does get on your skin or in your eyes please follow the first aid instructions below:

Caustic Soda First Aid

  • Remove the Caustic Soda as quickly as possible by washing with large quantities of water only.
  • If contact with eyes, wash them immediately and continuously with plenty of water for at least 30 minutes while holding the eye-lids open and rolling the eyes back and forth.
  • Contact a doctor urgently and keep flushing your eyes with water. Any time lost prior to such washing with water could cause serious and irreparable damage! Do not use soap.
  • If Caustic Soda is swallowed immediately digest large quantities of milk, call a doctor and organize transport to hospital as soon as possible.

Your drainage system can easily become clogged due to any of the reasons above or other problems such as broken pipes may be the issue. A slight break in a pipe/drain can to cause waste to build up and cause a blockage.

Drain blockage used to be quite difficult to find and often involved expensive ground excavation to find the problem area. DrainBoss uses modern technology like CCTV where we feed a camera into the drain to find exactly where the blockage is located. Our drain technicians often recommend a CCTV survey to visibly see the problem and diagnose ways of preventing blockages occurring in the future.

Regular cleaning, plunging and flushing your toilet will prevent and slow the build up of scale and small bits of waste, which can cause larger problems.

Blocked toilets are a relatively frequent problem and it is possible to clear the blockage yourself but if you are uncomfortable using potentially dangerous chemicals or find the situation worsens, DrainBoss is here to help. Please call 03302235789 or call the number closest to your location for prompt callout 24 hours a day 365 days a year, covering Sussex, Surrey and Kent.

FAQ

Most frequent questions and answers

In most cases it takes around 45-60 minutes to unblock a toilet , there are other situations where it may take longer – for example if the blockage is internal ( bend at rear of toilet ) but the toilet is in boarding behind a wall then these would take longer owing to the access but every circumstance varies.

We usually charge it on a fixed priced rate at the time of the booking. We will advise you of this price. Toilets are usually unblocked within the hour at 1 hour’s charge .

Toilets can and do get blocked, quite often due to excessive toilet paper or larger volume loads going down the pan . Another common thing we see often is toilet air-freshener’s coming loose and entering into the toilet usually blocking the pan connector at the rear of the toilet. First thing we need to do is find the location of the blockage. If you have drain inspection covers outside, we would lift these to check the levels in the chamber. Over time scale and sometimes roots entering into the pipes can also cause blockages in the drain line of the toilet, thus letting paper snag and catch and build up again causing blockages. Baby wipes are also another common cause of blockages.

Toilets can, usually, be easily unblocked by a professional with very little disruption to the householders.
