Unblock Sinks Drains from DrainBoss
Blocked sink repair starts with knowing what you’re up against. Sinks can clog for a variety of reasons — our technicians deal with them all:
- Grease and food residue in kitchen sinks: Cooking oils, fats, and leftover food particles often cling to the inner walls of pipes, hardening over time and narrowing the passage until water struggles to drain.
- Hair and soap scum in bathroom basins: Hair binds with soap residue, forming dense clumps that get trapped just below the plughole or deeper in the waste pipe, slowing drainage and eventually causing a full blockage.
- Toothpaste, scale build-up, and foreign objects: Daily habits like brushing teeth can leave behind thick deposits of toothpaste, which combine with limescale in hard water areas. Small objects like cotton buds, dental floss, or jewellery can also fall in unnoticed and create obstructions.
- Incorrect disposal of waste: Pouring paint, coffee grounds, or cleaning chemicals down the sink can damage pipes or react with other materials in the system, forming sticky sludge that restricts flow.
- Old or damaged pipework: Over time, pipes may degrade, corrode, or shift out of alignment. This can lead to narrowed pathways, collapsed sections, or leaks that make blockages more likely and harder to remove without specialist tools.
At DrainBoss, we’re equipped with cutting-edge technology to unblock blocked sink issues efficiently. Our team uses high-pressure water jetting to break down tough build-ups and electro-mechanical tools for precise removal, ensuring long-lasting results with minimal disruption.
There’s no guesswork involved. Our expert blocked sink plumber will assess the blockage, choose the right technique, and explain every step clearly before starting. And if there are signs of a deeper issue, we’ll recommend a diagnostic inspection using advanced drain survey equipment.

FAQ
Most frequent questions and answers
Kitchen Sinks –
Fallen Leaves into the sink drain usually located outside the property from where the kitchen waste pipes run can cause the sink to block up.
Build up of fat and food waste.
Detergent from washing machines if they are run into the same waste system can cause issues by forming hard scale in the pipe work.
Bathroom Sinks –
Build up of hair in the system .
Shampoos , soap and other sanitary items used can build up scale in the pipes.
Sometimes your blocked sink could be due to an external drain being blocked. We will check the inspection chambers when necessary. Things like tree roots and debris can potentially cause sinks to block further along in the system.
You can try the following method but if it doesn’t work you are better off calling a professional to deal with it, as it can cause more problems if you keep putting “drain clearance” substances down the sink:
To try clearing a blocked sink you will need:
- White vinegar and baking soda, liquid drain un-blocker
- A bowl or bucket
- A Plunger
- A cloth
- Rubber gloves
1) – Clear the plughole
Remove the plug by unscrewing it and clear out any sludge of debris that may be blocking the pipe
2) – Make the plughole airtight.
Submerge the plughole in water to create an airtight seal before using the plunger.
3) – Seal off the overflow
Us a cloth to block the overflow and create a seal that is airtight.
4) – The plunger
Position the plunger over the plughole and push it up and down gently while keeping the cloth over the overflow to maintain a good seal.
5) – Vinegar & baking soda, or liquid drain unblocker.
If the plunger doesn’t free the blockage, you could try using the vinegar and baking soda or a liquid drain unblocker. Pour some baking soda down the drain, and then a cup of white vinegar to follow, or pour the drain unblocker down the plug hole.
6) – Hot water
You should hear “fizzing” when the vinegar and baking soda react. After a few minutes, pour hot water down the sink to flush it through.
7) – The u-bend
If the above has not worked try removing and cleaning out the u-bend.
8) If none of the above methods are successful, you should call a professional drain clearance company. DrainBoss offer a local 24 hour service.
We have experienced engineers that can quickly unblock your sink. It usually takes no more than an hour, however with bathroom sinks depending on the access ( if behind boarding for example ) it can take slightly longer.
We have all the equipment necessary to clear the sink on our vehicle. We use high pressure mini jets, electro mechanical cable machine and suction vacs.
Unfortunately, if left, it will start to back up in other areas of the same drainage run and can cause issues further in the system with possible spillages and flooding.
We have a fixed price for clearing a sink. Call our friendly advisors and will provide a price to you, depending on the access and other factors.
